The mission and vision of Foundation Fitness is to inspire our clients, members and staff to join the #BeYourBest movement, which encourages continual self-improvement on a daily basis, starting in the gym and hopefully getting adopted within every area of life. We aim to be a one-stop shop, by making things as streamlined as possible in order to provide the best service for our clients.
Our staff members at each location are pushed to further their education, not only in personal training, but in leadership and relationship building, as well. We take pride in doing our best to provide clean facilities, upgraded equipment, motivating classes and well-trained employees. Foundation Fitness operates as an employee-owned business; each location is their own individual company, but all work together to achieve the same goal of guiding our clients along their own personal fitness journeys to a happier and healthier life.
“Our goal is to have every member leave with a sweat and a smile! We operate as a fitness company but we understand the importance of creating healthy, positive, and long lasting relationships. Our members are the heart and soul of our business and the most wonderful part of what we do.“
Foundation Fitness started out in 2009 as a personal training company in Annandale, VA. Owner, Lance LeTellier, was working as a personal trainer at the time, and began subleasing space at his parents’ gym to train his clients. We acquired our first location in Palisades in 2010, and in 2011, took over a studio in Fairfax, VA. During this same time, Foundation Fitness moved out of the subleased space in Annandale and into our current Annandale Foundation Fitness location. In 2013, Lance purchased his previous boss’ business in Del Ray, and was able to turn that spot around to become profitable.
This past year, the Del Ray location moved down the road into a brand-new space. Lance then headed out to Ashburn, VA, in 2016, and took over a studio there. In 2017, Foundation Fitness had it’s first go at a membership-based gym in Cleveland Park, complete with personal training and group training. The business had been in existence for over 25 years, and Lance partnered with one of the owners to continue that gym’s legacy. Later that same year, our Annapolis membership-based location opened, which offers complimentary childcare, a healthy drink station and snack bar, group classes, personal training, and more.

Making significant changes requires making nutrition a top priority.
Lance LeTellier is the CEO of Foundation Fitness, where he leads a growing network of personal training studios and gyms across the DMV focused on helping clients perform, look, and live at a higher level.
His foundation was built through four years of competitive wrestling at Robinson High School, where he developed the discipline and mental toughness that still define his approach today. He later expanded into both powerlifting and Olympic lifting, building a well-rounded background in strength, performance, and movement. Lance has also competed in two men’s physique competitions, giving him direct experience in achieving elite-level body composition and the precision required in both training and nutrition.
Lance’s path into fitness started early, growing up in Fairfax, VA as a self-described overweight kid. After being introduced to weight training and working with a personal trainer, he experienced firsthand the impact that structured training and accountability can have. That experience sparked a passion not just for fitness, but for helping others push beyond what they would do on their own.
While attending George Mason University, Lance ran a collegiate painting business, where he discovered his interest in building and growing a company. He later combined that with his passion for fitness, leading to the creation and expansion of Foundation Fitness.
Beyond the gym, Lance lives what he promotes. He has summited Mt. Rainier and Mt. Kilimanjaro, and pursues experiences that demand both physical and mental capacity, including skiing, skydiving, and advanced scuba diving. He also prioritizes recovery and longevity practices such as yoga.
His belief is straightforward: fitness is not the end goal, it is the foundation that allows you to experience more of life. Through Foundation Fitness, his mission is to help others build that foundation so they can truly be their best.
Patrick grew-up in Northern Virginia and graduated from West Springfield High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2000 to 2004, including two tours overseas, and returned home to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. Patrick then transitioned into a career in the construction and property management field but he always felt that something was missing.
While working-out at the gym in 2009, he met Foundation Fitness CEO Lance LeTellier,
who asked him if he would be interested in working for the newly formed company. The sense of belonging to something bigger than himself and the ability to help people on a daily basis was exactly what he was looking for. Patrick has since become an owner and currently oversees the operations of the studios throughout Foundation Fitness
Patrick has been a personal trainer for over 10 years, and is certified through NSCA, USA Weightlifting, and USA Powerlifting. His continuous growth mindset and commitment to self-improvement has been a major theme in his personal and professional life. Patrick has been a competitive strength athlete for the past 8 years, and has won several state championships. In his spare time, he likes to stay active playing sports, such as disc golf, lifting weights, and rooting for the Washington-area sports teams.
